Mom left the hospital on Friday morning and is now resting comfortably at Janet's house, where she has been living. She's on the main floor in the piano room just off the front entrance. Jan lives in a very beautiful country type setting, like a cottage in the woods. Looking out the window she sees beautiful trees, listens to the magpies and smells the wonderful rain we've been getting all day.
She is being properly medicated as to have as much comfort as possible and yet still be conscious enough that she can tell us what she needs, communicate briefly with those around her and have all of her family just a room away and at her beck and call at anytime. She coughs, everyone jumps. Rarely is there less than 2 or 3 people around her bedside.
She's enjoying conference weekend. She was thrilled about the announcement of the new temples, but the thing that got her attention the most was when Ray announced he's make his family favorite 9 grain wheat pancakes for breakfast. Big grins all around. Although she's mainly eating yogurt and water, she loved the smell of the pancakes, bacon and eggs permeating the house. Smells of home. We love her!

Grandma wants her three Peterson Grandsons at the foot of her bed so she can see them.

Hi to all my Speakman cousins.
My mom (Iris) called me Friday to tell me about your mom's (Aunt Betty's) cancer. Please tell her hello and that she is in our thoughts and prayers.
A few years ago my children and I were staying in Fillmore for a few months, waiting to join my husband on the east coast, where he was starting a new job. During that time I had a chance to get reaquainted with Uncle Dan and Aunt Betty. It was fun visiting with them and also to get up to date on the status of their extensive geneology work. I enjoyed Uncle Dan telling a few stories about Grandma and Grandpa Speakman.
I know this is an emotionally tough time for the entire family.
We will be praying for all of you too.
Love your cousin, Janine Speakman Rodgers and family
Dear Betty Jo:
You look beautiful, as usual, in these photos. You still radiate that wonderful spirit you have always had, even lying in that comfortable-looking bed they've readied for you.
Do you have any idea how much I love you? I love the memory of spending the night at your house and the fun we had. I love the memory of the first time I ever remember seeing you and Dan and your children in our big side yard when you first moved to Mesa...seeing there was actually a girl my own age...a new cousin! I love the memories of you serving with my mother in the Young Women's program, and watching you ladies have such a good time together as you served in your callings...my mother, you, Elladene, LaVerle, and others. I love watching the home video my dad took of the Reed's, Speakman's, Payne's, Beach's, when we all went to some river and met Cleiburn's family there. We were all having such a fantastic time. I love remembering how it sounded watching Dan, your husband, sing "When You Walk Through a Storm" in the old 13th ward cultural hall. In all....I love you! I love and appreciate the times you spent with my mom these last few years and how much fun the 2 of you had together. She adores you and misses you. You are her precious niece. She was telling me the other day of what she remembers of your appendicitis when you were a little girl...how she was so concerned about you.
Please remember that every prayer we offer, we ask Heavenly Father to bless you at this time...and to bless your dear children and grandchildren.
Love,
Becky Reed Lisonbee
Betty Jo and your family are in our prayers.
Kevin and Jolene Petersen
